Easter holiday ideas for families in Sussex
Apr 8, 2026
Easter holidays are here — and whether the sun stays out or the clouds roll in, Sussex has plenty to keep kids busy, happy and off their screens for a few days. Here's a mix of indoor and outdoor ideas for families across the county.

The Skate Farm — Haywards Heath
If your child rides a skateboard, scooter, inline skates or quad skates, The Skate Farm in Haywards Heath is running Easter sessions and workshops throughout the holidays.
This Easter we've got the Dan Katchi Pro Skate Academy on Thursday 9th April — a full day of pro-level coaching from one of the UK's most respected skateboarders. Goodie bags for all attendees and a free deck for the best improver. £55 per rider. Spaces are limited.
For families who just want to come and skate, open sessions are running throughout the holidays — mornings, afternoons and evenings, all disciplines welcome. The park is fully indoor, so it works whatever the weather. There's a Bean Barn coffee shop on site for parents, free parking and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that's perfect for first-timers.

Wakehurst — Ardingly
Kew's wild botanic garden in the heart of Sussex is one of the most underrated days out in the county. The grounds are vast, the Millenium Seed Bank is genuinely fascinating for older kids and the woodland walks are excellent whatever the weather. Easter weekend usually brings egg trails and activities — worth checking their website for what's on.
A proper full-day outing, especially if the weather holds. About 15 minutes from Haywards Heath.
Bluebell Railway — Sheffield Park
If you've got a child who loves trains, the Bluebell Railway is one of the best heritage railways in the country. Steam trains running through the Sussex countryside — simple, timeless and reliably brilliant. Easter usually brings special services so check ahead for timetables and events.
Sheffield Park station is about 20 minutes from Haywards Heath.
Knockhatch Adventure Park — Hailsham
A solid family day out near Eastbourne with go-karts, laser tag, soft play, a farm area and outdoor activities. Works well for mixed-age groups and keeps kids entertained for a full day regardless of weather. About 30 minutes from Haywards Heath.
Borde Hill Garden — Haywards Heath
Right on the doorstep — Borde Hill is a beautiful garden estate just outside Haywards Heath with woodland walks, a playground and plenty of space to run around. Easter activities usually run across the holidays. A great option if you want something local, relaxed and easy on the wallet.
Brighton
It wouldn't be Easter in Sussex without a mention of Brighton. The seafront, the Lanes, the beach — if the sun is out, Brighton is hard to beat for a family day. The Sea Life Centre is good for younger kids, the i360 is worth it for the views and the pier is always a reliable crowd pleaser.
About 30 minutes from Haywards Heath by car or a direct train.
Tilgate Park — Crawley
A big open park in Crawley with a nature centre, a lake, a farm area and loads of space for kids to run. Free to enter — you just pay for the nature centre. A good low-cost option if you want fresh air and outdoor space without committing to a full paid attraction.
About 20 minutes from Haywards Heath.
Back to The Skate Farm — a note on booking
If you're planning to bring kids to The Skate Farm over Easter, book ahead rather than turning up on the day. Sessions do fill up during school holidays, especially with the Dan Katchi Academy running this week.
All sessions are bookable online at theskatefarmcic.co.uk — you can filter by session type to find the right one for your child's age and ability.
